Two Denarii

Hi, a beautiful day it is, yeah?

February's gradually wrapping up.

On today's theme, I'll like to ask you a question:

What would it cost you to show love?

Money may not buy love, but it does have a price.

In Luke 10:30-37, The Priest and a Levite passed through the same way but didn't have what it took to show love.

But the Samaritan had a compassionate heart.

All it cost him at first was 2 denarii.

Here's a story of Mother Teresa.

'People often ask me what Mother Teresa was like,’ writes Shane Claiborne in his book "The Irresistible Revolution". ‘Sometimes it’s like they wonder if she glowed in the dark or had a halo. She was short, wrinkled, and precious, maybe even a little ornery, like a beautiful, wise old granny. But there is one thing I will never forget – her feet. Her feet were deformed. Each morning I would stare at them. I wondered if she had contracted leprosy. One day a Sister explained, “Her feet are deformed because we get just enough donated shoes for everyone, and Mother does not want anyone to get stuck with the worst pair, so she digs through and finds them. And years of doing that have deformed her feet.” Years of loving her neighbour as herself deformed her feet.’

What would it cost us to typify this kind of love?

I'm well aware that living on earth is not exactly nice, especially when having funny folks around.

Love is not a commodity to be bought, sold and traded, but it is a precious energy that costs us our life force. A person in love is willing to go to any lengths to ensure that his/her loved one is safe, happy & content. There are countless ways that we pay the price of loving another.

In this new week, what would be your first two denarii?

Recall that, to truly love means to know God. For God is Love.
