Heart Check

Good afternoon. I trust August has been favorable at your end.

In today's message, we would consider two groups of people.

Have you read the tale of the unsung heroes in 2 kings 7:1-20?

Yes, the four lepers. You might not tag them heroes until you look critically.

They knew they stood a chance to be humiliated more than ever. Yet, they couldn't hoard the news of what had happened in the enemy's camp.

"We are not doing right… come, let us go and tell..."

The lepers rightly enjoyed the miracle God provided. But they also realized that the gift gave them a responsibility to share it with others. They understood that to remain silent and to selfishly enjoy their blessings would be sin.

Until you read through the incidence involving King David and his men, would you surmise that indeed these men, though bedeviled by leprosy, had a good heart.

1 Samuel 30:1-31

The life of David was characterized by battles. 200 fighting soldiers decided to sit out that battle. They watched over the loot belonging to the gang.

As the men return from battle, some of his men did not want to share what they recovered with those who were too exhausted to fight (verses 21–22). But David was wise enough to see that everyone has a part to play in God’s work. He replied, ‘No, my brothers, you must not do that with what the Lord has given us… The share of the man who stayed with the supplies is to be same as that of him who went down to the battle. All shall share alike’ (verses 23–24).

Those who do the less glamorous work are just as important as those who hit the headlines.

The spotlight doesn't belong solely to us. Whether we are watched closely or not, whether the stage is given to us or not, we must do our best irrespective. More so, we must see whatever task is given, as an assignment from God.

Sometimes, all we need do is to sit it out.

I pray God gives us the sensitivity to know when to do this.

Fun fact : God chooses the most despised (four lepers) to discover the abandoned Aramean camp. What fun they must have had, stuffing their starving bodies with delicious food and covering their disfigured bodies with beautiful clothes. They got the best, first. 🤣

Now, go kick some ass,

Faith, for the Royal Rubies.
